Pool Closed Tomorrow (1 AUG)

Dear DGSWIM Families,

We have today been advised by Surfers Paradise State School that the pool will be closed tomorrow (Saturday, 1 Aug), due to scheduled asbestos removal works associated with the school's ongoing roof restoration project.

Many families will remember the previous closure earlier this year. We understand this latest notice may be disappointing, and we want to reassure everyone that these works are part of a different stage of the school's roof restoration project. The asbestos removal is not taking place within the swim school or pool facility itself.

As with the previous closure, the decision to close the entire school site has been made by QBuild, who are managing the project on behalf of the Queensland Department of Education.

This is a One-Day Closure Only

The scheduled works will take place on Saturday, 1 Aug only.

DGSWIM will resume all lessons as normal from Monday, 3 August.

We appreciate that the previous closures caused understandable concern, so we want to reassure families that this is currently planned as a single-day closure only.

Why the Notice Was So Late

Unfortunately, DGSWIM had no involvement in either the timing of these works or the short notice provided.

We were only advised once the school had received confirmation that the site would need to close.

We have also been informed that there may be one or two additional Saturday closures before the end of the year as further asbestos removal is completed. As always, we will notify families as soon as we receive confirmed dates.

Safety First

For the safety of students, staff and contractors, the entire school site will be closed on Saturday, 1 Aug.

This means there will be no access to the pool or school grounds during the works.

Lesson Arrangements

Levels 7–12

Please utilise your available make-up lessons.

Remember that make-up lessons can also be redeemed during school holidays and public holidays, as DGSWIM operates throughout these periods.

Levels 1–6 & Adult Programs

A lesson credit will automatically be applied to your account on Monday, 3 August.
